Stranger Outbids Fallen Sheriff’s Son For Dodge Charger Patrol Car, Then Hands Him The Keys

Colorado Officer Deputy Sam Brownlee Patrol Car

Colorado Officer Deputy Sam Brownlee from the Weld County Sheriff’s Department was killed in the line of duty during a police chase back in 2010. When he passed, he left behind a wife and two children leaving them to mourn him and his memory. It is always a difficult time when a loved one is taken from us too soon and our children sometimes don’t understand why it happens to them.

An organization that helps families of fallen officers and officers killed in the line of duty called COPS often holds charity events to raise money for these families. Sam’s squad car was one of these fund raisers. The COPS organization put up his Dodge Charger that was used as a patrol car for auction. Sam’s children Tanner and Chase found out about the auction and immediately knew they wanted to purchase the vehicle to remember their father.

They started a GoFundMe page in order to raise the funds to place a bid on the auctioned Dodge Charger. The Charger was valued at $12,500 and the boys placed their bid on their father’s patrol car. That’s when they were outbid. A man named Steve Wells outbid Tanner to the tune of $60,000. This made the boy distraught as he really wanted to own his father’s former squad car in remembrance of the fallen officer.

To Tanner’s surprise, the man who was a complete stranger, handed the boy the keys to the Dodge Charger. He bid on the car with the intention of purchasing the vehicle for Tanner. The only thing that is known about the gentleman who purchased his father’s vehicle for him is that he is a local rancher and owns thousands of acres of oil-rich property.

It is stories like this that give us faith in humanity. With the vast amounts of tragic and heartbreaking events that happen on a daily basis, it is nice to see a heartwarming story like this. This boy will now have a little piece of his father everytime he drives around in his father’s Dodge Charger patrol vehicle.
