Is Yamaha Going to Make a Sports Car?

Yamaha Sports Ride

Normally reserved to only motorcycles Yamaha has made a huge name for themselves with open air vehicles that have two wheels or some with four wheels that are made for running through mud and muck.  Not often do we see this company making a sports car with four wheels and an enclosed shell, but at the Tokyo Motor Show we were presented with a concept vehicle that is similar to the one they brought out at the same show only two years ago. This new Sports Ride coupe concept has a lot to offer and might be the Yamaha we really want.

At first glance the Sports Ride shows us a highly attractive build that is sleek and sporty with smooth hood lines, low and large front grills that flank a jutting out nose cone that leaves lines along the ridge for some intriguing headlight shapes.  Moving away from the front of the car the curve to the roof is smooth and looks like a single piece as the roof is painted in gloss black to look similar to the tinted windows.  The small mirrors stand on small pedestals and resemble those of the Pagani Huayra.

What makes this attractive and stylish vehicle even more interesting is the fact that it weighs in at only 1,650 pounds which makes it lighter than the Mazda MX-5 Miata.  As a compact sports car the Sports Ride may be the car from Yamaha that we look forward to bringing to the US for us to take to our tracks and streets and see what Yamaha can do with four wheels under the build.  If this car makes it to production, the hope from those who have already seen this beauty is the pricing will be somewhere in line with the Miata to be an affordable sports car for us to love.

ON the inside you are greeted to a saddle brown leather interior that is adorned with carbon fiber and metallic accents.  This gives a truly Yamaha feeling to the car to make it one that we can certainly appreciate.  Although only a small number of details are actually known about this car so far, the Sports Ride is one that Yamaha seems to be extremely excited to offer to use and wants bring to market fairly quickly in order to enter into the sports car arena of the world.

Whether or not this car makes its way to production, the fact that Yamaha continues to make these concepts and show them off at these auto shows is evidence they would like to be in the car world at some point.  Are we going to see Yamaha add four wheels to their lineup of vehicles in the near future and give us a lightweight and active car to drive and take on any curves of the world?  Stay tuned and find out more as concept makes it way to production and then to the market for you to enjoy.
