You know that brakes are an important part of the driving you do on a daily basis. These are the part of your car that give you the stopping power you want and allow you to slow down around a curve when taking your foot off the gas isn’t enough. The problem with brakes can be the maintenance of this part of your vehicle. Just because you hear a noise or have an indicator that your brakes need changed, why should you change them when they’re still working just fine?

The reason you want to change your brake pads when you have an indication that they are worn is because of the cost and the safety involved. If you continue to drive on worn brake pads, especially after the indicator attached to your pads has given you the information that your pads are worn you will have to pay more in the long run. You can end up paying for new rotors or even new calipers depending upon how far you drive with the indicator sounding off to you. This also created an unsafe operation of your vehicle when you’re on the road.

What are the indicators that tell you when your brakes need to be changed? There are typically a few different ways you’re going to know it’s time to change your brakes. The firs is the most visible, which is the brake light in your dashboard, the second indicator is a loud screeching sound that you’ll hear from the wheels, which is the brake indicator. Another sign that you need to have your brake pads changes is an increase in the stopping distance that you experience when you need to stop at a light or stop sign in your area.

If you experience any of these warning signs you need to have your brakes checked. There is one note to make regarding the brake light though. Check your parking brake and make sure it’s not engaged before you use that indicator as the warning you need. Once you’re sure the parking bake isn’t causing the light to be on, take your vehicle to a certified service location and have your vehicle checked out to see if you need to have your brake pads changed for new ones, which hopefully is the only thing you’re going to need replaced.

Don’t wait to have your brakes fixed when you’re being given the warning signs. Just because it will take time out of your day or you feel like your brakes will last a while before going in doesn’t mean you should keep on driving. The loud noise coming from your brakes is the indicator that’s rubbing on or rotor. The more this rubs your rotor the more likely it is that you’ll have to replace these items on your car, which costs you more money than it should.

Feel safe and secure during your ride on the road by listening to your car and replacing your brakes when your car tells you to do so. Doing this on time will save you money and keep you safer on the road.
