Power! Performance! Hatchback?

2016 Blue Ford Focus RS

We are seeing an evolution of auto making that gives us a variety of highly powerful cars with outstanding performance in the form of hatchbacks.  Referred to as hot hatches these cars are perfect for driving at high speeds, with great power and giving us all we can ask for from them.  The most recent offering for a hot hatch is the Ford Focus RS which has been present in Europe and will now come to the US in a similar form.  This is an exciting offering for us to be able to enjoy on our shores and with plenty of road to test this beauty out we will see a great deal of fun from those who purchase this new version of the Focus.

The Focus RS is powered by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that can produce 350 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque.  This car benefits form one of the most productive AWD systems on the market giving the car some fantastic control around a track to allow the car to keep up top speeds.  The Focus RS will reach sixty mph in less than 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 165 mph.  One really amazing feature is the ability of the car to make 375 lb.-ft. of torque when under hard acceleration because there is a transient overboost, giving the car a temporary increase of the fun power that can be enjoyed.

As with many other performance oriented cars of today the Focus RS offers four drive modes to make sure you have the car set up to drive how you want.  These four modes are Normal, Sport, Track and Drift.  The drift mode actually gives you the ability to control oversteer drifts to allow you to have even more fun in the car and still remain under control.

Ford has done a great job of making the RS a sporty car from a performance angle, but how about from the exterior?  There are actual aerodynamic features present for this car to ensure it can be planted and able to provide you with the performance you are looking for.  The intakes on the front are larger and the underbelly is smooth to allow air to flow where it’s needed.  The large wing above the rear window helps push the rear end down in order to give us a car that will remain stable on the road or track to give you the best driving experience possible.

In a world where hot hatches are starting to become the best new offerings from car brands the Ford Focus RS is one that comes in at a price for performance that you can really enjoy at a cost of only $36,605.  This makes the Focus RS cheaper than the Volkswagen Golf R and any hot hatch that is offered from some of the luxury automakers.  As one of the only cars that can be bought in a manual only setup the Focus RS is truly a car that makes driving fun again.
