One of the most intriguing cars to be added to the market in recent months is the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS. This is a car that represents everything Porsche has been working for with the next car that will take to the track and be offered as a road car the public can love as well. As such, this car is built with the hardware in mind to make its way around the track at Nurburgring in a time that has only been seen a few times in the past.
One of the most impressive runs around this track was accomplished by the Porsche 918 Spyder. This insane hybrid driven sports car that cost owners a cool million to have the hypercar for themselves make the lap at Nurburgring in 6 minutes 57 seconds. The word from Porsche is the new 911 GT2 RS might be capable of reaching numbers that are extremely close to this level. With their eyes on the Lamborghini Huracan Performance time of 6 minutes 59 seconds, the team expects the GT2 RS to be able to turn all its sevens into a six once it makes its way across the finish line of the 12.9-mile course.
What sevens does the Porsche 911 GT2 RS have to show off? This is a car that marks the seventh generation of the Porsche 911 which has been part of the automotive landscape for several decades and it brings in 700 horsepower to give you a massive amount of power. The goal is to have a sub-seven minute time at the track and if that happens there’s a better than average chance the GT2 RS can have a faster time than the Lamborghini and possibly even the 918 Spyder, but we will have to see when it makes its official run around the Green Hell.
The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter engine that has the power mentioned and the ability to whip around the curves and corners the way it’s supposed to. This car comes in at a low weight of 3,241 pounds and has a top speed of 211 mph which will be extremely helpful when encountering the long straight areas of the track. Most likely the car that will make the run will have the Weissach Package installed which drops 40 pounds form the car to make it even quicker.
This lap around Nurburgring is one that we’ve been looking forward to since the announcement of this absolutely amazing supercar. As we wait to see whether this car will turn in a seven or a six when it comes to the time the discussion can continue to be about exactly how much fun and how sinister this car can and will be. Those that are waiting to get their hands on this car for their own collection are certainly cheering for its eventual dominance at the ‘Ring, which will only push other brands to bring more heat to this historic track.
