The Kia Sorento Adds Another Award for the Brand

The Kia Sorento for the 2019 model year was awarded the Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Kia has become one of the most admired and impressive brands in the mainstream automotive market over the past several years. Once a priority was placed on the driving experience and the quality offered when it’s time to head out on the road for a great drive, Kia vaulted near the top of the list. Not only can you find a variety of useful, enjoyable, and practical models that will let you have the drive you’re looking for with the Kia brand, you’ll also have the safety you want when you drive.

Safety Awarded to the Kia Sorento

This means the new Kia Sorento was rated at least Good in all six of the crashworthiness tests and has headlights that are also rated as Good or higher. This score takes into account the importance of offering the benefits of optional autonomous emergency braking and LED headlights to make sure you can easily have the drive you’re looking for when you head out and take to the roads to enjoy the drive in this SUV.

The Rating System and the Kia Award Winners

To understand what the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating means, let’s take a deeper look at what’s required. The vehicle being tested must earn at least a Good rating in six different tests that are meant to show that a vehicle can protect the passengers during a collision. This also means the vehicle has to receive Good or Acceptable ratings for the passenger-side small overlap test and receive either an Advanced or Superior rating for the front crash prevention systems offered and a Good rating for the headlights that are tested.

More Good News for the Kia Sorento

Looking at one step below this top rating is the Top SafetyPick level, which is what some vehicles have earned in the Kia lineup. In order to be rated at this level, a vehicle must receive Good ratings in five of the crashworthiness tests to make sure the vehicle will be able to protect the passengers that are inside from fatalities during the collision. These vehicles must also receive Advanced or Superior ratings for front crash prevention and a Good or Acceptable rating for the headlight testing that’s performed by the IIHS to check for the visibility offered.

The Kia Sorento isn’t the Only Safe Kia

The 2019 Kia Sorento isn’t the only Kia model to receive the top score from the IIHS. This new SUV is joined by the 2018 Kia Forte sedan, 2018 Kia Optima, and 2018 Kia Soul which all also receive the Top Safety Pick+ rating to give you the peace of mind you want. Those models from Kia that have received the Top Safety Pick rating include the 2018 Kia Cadenza, 2018 Kia Sedona, 2018 Kia Sorento, and 2018 Kia Sportage. With these models in mind, you know that if you purchase a new Kia, you’re going to have the safety features you need when out on the road.
