Advertised as an adventure vehicle that you can take out on the trails and enjoy some fun with, the Honda Passport has stormed the market.

This is the newest in a market that’s being filled with two-row midsize SUVs that can handle the fun on the trails and give you the capability you want when you drive. As a newer model, we’ve been looking forward to more information for this SUV and now we know it’s a safe model to drive.

The Safety Rating for the Honda Passport is in

Recently the numbers and scores came in, letting us know the safety rating of the Honda Passport. This SUV has earned a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS, which is the same rating the larger Honda Pilot has earned as well. This is the second-highest rating given for the organization, with the highest rating being Top Safety Pick+. The Passport just missed on the top rating for a couple of reasons, but it does come in as one of the safest models offered in this class, giving you the peace of mind, you want when you drive.

Crash Test Scores for the Honda Passport

When tested, the Honda Passport earned the highest “Good” rating in all crash tests except the passenger-side small overlap crash test. This test resulted in a score of “Acceptable” which is the second-highest rating for this SUV. In order to earn the Top Safety Pick+ rating, a vehicle must receive a “Good” rating in all crash tests. The headlights of the Passport also come up a bit short with an “Acceptable” rating. This is better than earlier versions of the Passport that were tested which earned “Poor” ratings for the headlights.

Breaking Down the Scores of the Honda Passport

Some of the safety features of the Honda Passport makes it possible for you to avoid a crash when you drive. The Passport features a standard forward-collision prevention system that earns a “Superior” rating for this technology. This is the highest grade possible and it offers you the driver warning and capability to bring the vehicle to a complete stop at speeds up to 12 mph. When at 25 mpg, the Passport is reduced in speed by 12 mph before hitting an object making it an impact that will do less harm to the vehicle and passengers.

Looking at the Class Safety Rankings

The class of SUVs that includes the Honda Passport has seven other models that have earned the Top Safety Pick rating. These models are the Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, Kia Telluride, Jeep Cherokee, Nissan Pathfinder, Hyundai Santa Fe XL, and Toyota Highlander. Only four are rated at the Top Safety Pick+ level of safety for you. These models are the Hyundai Palisade, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, and Subaru Ascent.
