Pulling 450 horsepower out of a V6 engine isn’t an easy feat to accomplish, but Ford was able to do it with the engine we see in the current version of the Ford F-150 Raptor. This may be an amazing engine that provides us with the necessary power to head out on the trails and have a lot of fun when you take to the outdoors. Even so, this engine has left us longing for something that we had in the original Raptor, a V8 engine. It seems that Ford may have heard our desires and might just fulfill them soon.
The Right Engine is Available
Now that the engine we find in the Raptor is being used in the Limited trim of the Ford F-150, the Ford team is looking for a way to keep the Raptor special and different from the rest of the F-150 lineup. Thankfully, there is an engine available to Ford that could make this possible for the brand. Right now, there’s a powerful engine being used in the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 that will offer the boost we want and the added power desired for the Raptor.
An Incredible Increase for the Raptor
The current engine being used in the GT500 is a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that offers a massive amount of power for the drive. This engine already pushes out more than 700 horsepower for the Mustang, and with this level of power in the Raptor, we could have even more speed on the dunes and have the fun we want to enjoy when it’s time to head out on the trails to have a lot more fun. Because this engine is already part of the Ford family of engines, it seems a logical choice.
The Raptor is Ready for an Upgrade
The current generation of the Ford F-150 Raptor is scheduled to be replaced in 2021 or 2022. The engine from the GT500 has been confirmed to be the engine that will be used and ready for you to have the drive you’re looking for. We don’t know for sure what the power numbers will be when this engine is put under the hood of the truck, but you can expect it to have similar numbers to the Mustang in order to give you the power and the drive you’re looking for when you head out on the trails.
Prepare for the Launch
If you’ve been longing for the next Raptor to have a V8 engine offered for the drive you want to enjoy, it will be offered soon. We should expect to see the concept and the production version make its way around the auto show circuit next year to get us excited about what this truck will be and how it can perform. You can expect the new version of the Raptor to be more aggressive and powerful to continue to be the king of the off-road trucks that we love to admire and drive.
