Chevrolet has been a popular brand for decades. Android has also become the most popular type of smartphone on the market today. It makes sense that the two popular kids on the block are becoming best friends. Chevrolet announced that it will add the popular Android Auto into their 2016 vehicles. It will also make Apple’s CarPlay available in the 2016 model vehicles as well. Chevrolet is joining Hyundai in being a provider to the two products.
CarPlay and Android Auto will function as Chevrolet’s infotainment systems in the 2016 model year vehicles. It works by calibrating with the user’s iPhone or Android smartphone. The integration of these systems into Chevrolets will make it seamless for iPhone and Android users and allow them to use their smartphones with voice commands in the vehicle, or by LCD touchscreen.
Integration with the systems allows Chevrolet to focus on other features of the vehicle, while leaving the infotainment integration heavy lifting to the engineers at Apple and Google. Chevrolet is showing consumers that they are listening to what is important to them with this partnership. They understand how important the smartphone has become in day to day life for consumers. Many owners use their phone for business, which makes this integration even more important for those on the go.
Fourteen models will offer the CarPlay and Android Auto infotainment system for the 2016 model year. Chevrolet is bolstering their technology forward, youth-oriented reputation with the addition of these systems. Chevrolet decided to offer both CarPlay and Android Auto in their vehicles so that they wouldn’t isolate any of their customers. The systems will be available on all trim levels of their vehicles, although GM’s MyLink must be installed for it to be available.
