In any segment of the world a loyalty toward a particular product or group creates a feeling of desire, entitlement and inclusion into an exclusive club whether it’s real or made up. This is the case for sports fans, Science Fiction fans and of course vehicle fans. Some would tell you the feeling isn’t as strong with vehicles as it is with sports teams or Sci-Fi, but I certainly wouldn’t be one to argue with a steadfast Ford Truck lover about the qualities that make a Chevrolet Silverado a great truck. Doing that might be hazardous to my health and well-being, which I value dearly. With this in mind I present you with ten vehicles that qualify as fanboy or fangirl vehicles, let’s see if you agree with me.
Not only is the Corvette lauded as one of the best sports cars on the planet in history, it offers a long list of models that have been created to give you some of the best looking and quickest cars you can find anywhere. Corvette lovers and clubs encompass a lot of generations allowing fandom to be passed down from one to the next.
If you haven’t met a Mustang lover you pretty much live in a bubble. They are everywhere and this pony car seems to have a nearly cult following. One aspect of the Mustang that makes it such a great car to follow is not only the speed and power but the comfort of the interior where you can carry a few friends along for the ride.
The M3 is certainly a fan favorite because the 3-Series is the most popular BMW on the road and comes in at the perfect size. This sport version of the 3-Series is one of the most luxurious sports cars on the road lending its way toward many fans to create clubs and groups that simple fall easily in love with this athletic and dynamic beauty.
You might not think a truck made by Toyota would incite the same fandom as some of the others on this list, but when GM and Ford both left the midsized truck segment the Tacoma stayed to be a grand player in the segment besting the Nissan Frontier by far. The fandom for this truck makes it obvious that loyalty is s two-way street, the Tacoma never left, thus keeping and gaining fandom.
The GT-R is a car that has gained huge fandom without ever being owned by many of the fans. The GT-R is the most anticipated car to come out and is followed heavily by those who may never be able to even set foot in one. As a model that has taken social media by storm and is more of a virtual ownership for many the GT-R is defended heavily against any criticism.
The Miata is one of the most fun cars to drive and those who own them and love the drive will certainly defend them to the end. Even though it only has a small power plant this car has the engagement that lets you be a full participant in the ride and shows off with a style that many will surely put their reputations on the line for, but you have to step in and drive to understand the fun you can have in the Miata.
The WRX has a following that is similar to the Miata, but on a tuner side of things. This car looks like it has been tuned already before you ever touch it and you don’t have to put much into it to make it a serious player on any road. This car certainly demands a fan following that can get very serious when put up against many other tuner cars. One of the most impressive parts of this car is the balance and AWD which can turn you into an instant fan, letting the other fanboys enjoy the knowing smile of experience.
The Tesla lineup gains fandom from those who love technology, also known as “techies”. This group is obviously growing as the need and use of technology grows. For those who want to join the “green team” and run on renewable energy, the Tesla models make a great luxury choice with the 200 mile range on a single full charge. As the only EV that runs without a gasoline backup, the Tesla loves truly have deep feelings for their beloved vehicles.
Is this one a surprise? It shouldn’t be, the GTI is a dialed down and hatchback model that is dynamic, sporty, fun to drive and has a degree of luxury you don’t get everywhere. This all leans toward a worldwide following that makes this one of the most followed and loved vehicles on the planet with so many owners who will defend the GTI with unabashed vehemence.
When it comes to fandom, this tops the charts. Jeep lovers get together all over the country to enjoy some fun romping through the off road courses and blazing new trails. The mantra of “It’s a Jeep thing, you wouldn’t understand” is certain to invoke some superiority complex that is surely warranted to a degree that is only fully understood by Wrangler owners; why else would a build last over seventy years.
With these ten vehicles, for the most part you can see the reason for the fandom and why they have gained such a great following. With others, you might look quizzically at the vehicle and wondering why the vehicle has gained such a following. When you ask those who are fans of those vehicles you should expect to get a similar statement as the mantra of the Jeep as basically those who are fans understand and everyone else has no idea. With that in mind, what is your favorite on this list and have you decided to pledge your allegiance to a Corvette, Jeep or Mustang?
