The news is the first batch of the new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is ready to roll and heading out of the Lansing, MI plant on their way to dealerships around the country. The arrival of this new and awesome muscle machine signifies much in the world of the Camaro and Chevrolet. Not only is this going to be the sixth generation of the car and will start being sold in the middle of November but a lot went into the making of the new Camaro so that we could have it and it could be a truly American classic automobile.
First of all, the Lansing plant had to be upgraded to be able to build the Camaro. Originally this car was going to be made in the Oshawa facility in Canada instead of Michigan. While certainly still an American product, the fact that the Camaro is made in Michigan has a certain ring and romance to it. In order to make the facility in Lansing, where the Cadillac ATS and CTS are built, ready for the Camaro GM had to spend $175 million in order to upgrade the plant and fit it for this awesome car to be built there.
For the first run of the Camaro the plant will produce the SS which is powered by a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 and makes 455 horsepower as well as the LT which offers a 3.6-liter V6 and produces 335 horsepower. The LT is expected to be the overall sales leader for this car. The convertible and the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder models will not roll out until the early part of next year. The transmissions you will find if you buy a new Camaro will be either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic.
As we begin to see these models roll out and be put on sale at a Chevrolet dealer nearby the 1LT will show up with pricing that starts at $26,695 while the SS will begin at a much higher number at $37,295. The standard equipment for every model includes a rearview camera, automatic climate control, power adjustable front seats and push button starting. This new sixth generation of the car is expected to be the most comfortable Camaro yet and has taken the driver and at least the front passenger into consideration when looking at creature comforts for a sports car that is at home on the road and the track.
Now that the Camaro is rolling out and the production was done in Lansing, MI all seems right with the world. This car is an American icon that was always supposed to be made in Michigan and now that its where it belongs the car looks, feels and is right on the money to be the best Camaro ever produced. If you have been looking forward to the sales of this awesome car, get ready because they are about to begin, you can almost smell the burning rubber and hear the sound of the growling engines from here, it won’t be long now.
