Going on a trip around the sun gives us a whole year in the books and 2015 was one of the most amazing years in history. This time around we saw some of the best cars ever made and the awesome features that were put in place in order to make the most use of a variety of ways to drive. Cars took on a new look, feel and an upgraded fashion this year. With that in mind you can enjoy these seven moments that were the best car moments of 2015 to put in your memory and know that 2016 will give us even more great moments.
The Ford GT – The big surprise in Detroit at the beginning of the year let us see that we were in for a great year from the start. The beautiful electric blue GT was unveiled and was the best kept secret in the automotive world at the time. What makes this an even better unveiling is the fact this highly touted namesake will use a twin-turbocharged V6 and not a V8 but it still will make 600 horsepower to give it one of the most powerful rides we will get to enjoy when it actually hits that market. What a way to start the year.
Model S – Tesla has already shown us the Model S as its offering and way to show off a car that didn’t need or desire a gasoline backup generator at all. In 2015 the Model S added AWD to the car in order to give drivers even more control than before. Adding AWD meant the brand could sell more cars in the northern part of the country in order to expand their market. The added benefit to putting AWD into this car was it increased the overall speed of the car including the Ludicrous Mode that is found in the P90D trim. This then becomes one of the fastest accelerating cars on the market.
Mercedes- Benz Turn – The C-Class was considered to be the base of the lineup for many years and during 2015 we saw Mercedes-Benz put the AMG GT engine into this much smaller car to get the maximum speed, power and performance from this new car. This battle for the small super sedan has been going on for years between BMW and Mercedes- Benz in order to produce the best of this type of car. For 2015 it seems the C-Class with the AMG C63 might just be the leader in this regard.
The Cayman Improves – For several years the Porsche Cayman has been a good car to drive and a nice sports car that has been under the guise of needing more power. For 2015 this car has been improved to add the Cayman GT4 and have the power it needs to make it a much faster car than before. Now this car gets an engine that comes out of the 911 Carrera to make it a nearly perfect car to drive that now gives you another awesome Porsche to choose.
Miata Upgrades – the 2016 Miata has been around for almost all of 2015. What makes this important is the fact it has been improved to enter its next generation of the Miata. For the first 25 years of this car’s existence it seemed to be a car stuck in cartoon like styling, but with some subtle changes the car that is made for fun has grown up and brought in much better overall capabilities. This makes for a new model that is just right for driving, especially when you want to head out to have a lot of fun on the road.
Honda Civic Type R for the US – The hot hatch has been a popular feature of the European automotive market but in the US we seem to miss out at times. The announcement was made this year that Honda would bring the Type R to the US for the first time giving us a hot hatch that also comes in as one of our all-time favorite cars on the market, the Honda Civic. This certainly was a welcome moment and one that let us have a car we have desired for many years.
They are at it Again – The 1980s were abysmal and the 1990s weren’t much better when it comes to the Mustang and Camaro pony car war. The Mustang during that time took on a look that was more similar to the sedans of the time rather than the muscle cars we loved. At the same time the Camaro was nothing to write home about either. With both cars entering new generations and having a successful build of a car that looks more similar to the muscle cars from the 1960s and early 1970s the war is on again and it’s certainly a rivalry that offers us some of the most impressive fun on the road. The best part of a great rivalry like this is we benefit from what is brought out as the car we want to drive.
As you can see, we had several great moments in 2015 and look forward to even more in the upcoming year to let us see just want the manufacturers will let us enjoy and admire. It will be another wild ride I’m sure and I look forward to sharing as much information as possible with you regarding what the automotive industry is doing and offering us.
