When we look at a car, especially a great sports car that offers the power, agility, drivability and excitement we look for there are typically some questions that come to mind. Whet that car is a new model on the market the questions expand to try and learn more about the lineup that will be offered and just how far the manufacturer is planning to go with the car to attract every possible buyer. This is certainly the case with the new BMW M2 which has captured our attention and give us a reason to wonder what this car will become.
The M2 is the car that comes in appearing to be a replacement for the old 1 Series M Coupe which we loved. As you would expect of any M car made by BMW this is an athletic car that offers great looks and a massive amount of performance and power. While at the top of the 2-Series lineup, there isn’t too much to ask that isn’t already being answered by the numbers offered except to wonder if this little car will ever take on the form of a convertible so buyers can enjoy driving with the top down and the wind in their hair.
The answer given to this question is a resounding “no”. This car will not have a convertible variant because of what its built for. The new M2 is a car that is made for the racetrack to show off its power and performance and a convertible would only add weight and challenge the chassis stiffness. In the lineup of the 2-Series there is a nice M235i Convertible that anyone can enjoy if they really want a car this size to be a convertible, but for the new M2 this will not be offered.
This certainly is in line with what the 1 Series M Coupe was built for and if this is the replacement of that car it only seems fitting for it to also be top up at all times. You can’t feel as if anything has been left out if you choose the M2 as your car though. This car offers you a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged engine that gives you 370 horsepower and 343 lb.-ft. of torque. With the light weight and small size this is car that can really whip around a track with easy on the highly developed sports suspension that makes full use of the AWD that is aboard.
Yes, the M2 is a dynamic drive and a fitting successor to the 1 Series M Coupe. This is a car that does not need to be changed or “improved” to have a convertible variation offered. If the M2 is the right car for you, it’s time for you to schedule some track time and see what this little beauty really can do for you. On the other hand, if you must have a convertible, the M235i Convertible will make a great option to give you the BMW with the top down in this size range. Either way, you will drive one amazing BMW car and have a great time on the track or on the road.
