Do you have a bucket list of items you would love to do before you pass on into the next world? It’s fun to think about the things we want to do that would make for a great time and an experience unlike any other before we die. In the automotive world there are plenty of these great events that just might be perfect to be added to your bucket list. Of course, if you are a horsepower junkie that needs to see more than one of these, you could put all of these on your own list to be done while you still walk upright above the ground.
Goodwood Festival of Speed – When the town is home to Rolls-Royce and has hosted an event that features some of the most impressive vehicles of all time it’s an event that should rank high on your list. This festival offers you not only a look at some of the most legendary cars to ever make it on the road or track, but also a hill that has become part of the lore of this festival. The hill climb course is a challenge for all cars to master and being able to drive a car up this course would be the cherry on top of this sundae.
Restoration – Many of us talk about it but never actually get to do it. Taking an older model car and restoring it to either near perfect condition like it came out of the factory or building it to be a unique show car that turns heads or gets looks of confusion would be a lot of fun. This is one way to keep your mind and body busy as you enjoy retirement as you restore the car that made your heart go faster when you were a teenager.
Drive on Route 66 – This amazing and historical road can only be driven one way; in a classic car from the 1960s. Of course if you can’t find one of these, look for something that is vintage enough to give this road the respect it deserves as this is the most famous road in America and will take you from Chicago to Santa Monica across eight different states to be the most glorious drive in the country. Take it easy on this road and enjoy the amazing scenery as you drive a road that made cruising what it is today.
Electric Road Trip – With so many charging stations that are being put up an electric road trip in a Model 3, Model S, i3 or Leaf would be a lot of fun. You have to account for and plan for the lengthy stops that occur because of the charging time of the vehicles, but this can be part of the glory of the trip. When you stop in different towns along the way you can turn into a tourist and enjoy the local food that each town has to offer. This would be a long trip over several days, but you certainly won’t complain about the variety you get to enjoy.
Dakar Dune Bashing – This would be an event of the highest adrenaline level. Using a massive beast of a truck such as a T4 and racing it across the desert at top speeds can make you have all the excitement you could imagine on four wheels. Dakar has been the home of a rally that is the top level of this type of race for many years and will give you the ride that will certainly put a check mark in the box on your bucket list.
Master the Corkscrew – The Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is known as the corkscrew and is one of the most challenging race tracks in the world. Even though this track isn’t quite as popular as Nurburgring its certainly one that will have you ready to come back for more once you get the chance to drive a couple laps around this mean and menacing stretch of road. The corkscrew part of this track will blow your mind and give you a drive experience unlike any other you have ever enjoyed and is certainly worth a line near the top of your bucket list.
