When you hear the words “station wagon” instantly the thought may be of Clark Griswold in the National Lampoon movies driving his family in the old faux wood panel side wagon to whatever destination he’s chosen for that movie. Even if you haven’t seen these movies, and you really should, the thought of a station wagon typically makes us cringe because of the stigma of slow, family haulers that are loaded down with too much cargo and people to be exciting and fun to drive. These cars are the epitome of practicality for a family but there are some station wagons that can change your mind.
Dodge Magnum SRT-8 – Here is a car that is built from a Dodge Charger but with a lot more room in the back. If you don’t want to drive an SUV and you want a lot of power in a wagon form, the Magnum will give you 425 horsepower. With this much power under the hood, you might forget about the practicality of your vehicle, but be glad you have it when you need to haul a load of lumber home for the weekend.
BMW M5 Touring – Why would there be an M car from BMW that’s also a wagon? For those of us who want some awesome power to go along with the need to have a wagon for the added space. The M5 Touring offers you a V10 engine that produces 500 horsepower and gives you a reason to love driving a station wagon. This is a car that offers the practicality and the power to be a car you want to drive.
HSV ClubSport Tourer LSA – Holden has produced some cars for the US that we have fallen in love with and even give us their own models. GM has enjoyed being able to sell the Pontiac G8 and the Chevrolet SS in the past, but to have the LSA you will have to move to Australia in order to have the full 536 horsepower under the hood of this wagon that offers the power and the space you need to have on a daily basis.
Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake – This is a car that has been limited to only the European crowd and has made those of us across the pond jealous. This is a gorgeous station wagon, if there is such a thing, and it offers those who get to own it 542 horsepower. This car is one you can take to the track with a load in the back that needs to be delivered home after you’ve run a few laps and shown off your prowess in a wagon to your friends.
Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon – Not only did Cadillac choose to create a wagon version of the CTS, they even went to the top of the performance chain and made it a V model with 556 horsepower coming out of the massive V8 engine. Forget the sports cars that you enjoy looking at, take this car and love the fact you can haul furniture and lead the pack on the track whenever you want to in a luxury built sports wagon.
Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon – If BMW is going to have a wagon with an M on the back you can be certain Mercedes will have one with AMG on the rear decklid. At 577 horsepower you might feel this wagon is out of control and gives you too much, but once you get the hang of driving this awesome wagon you will be glad you chose to add the space in the back and enjoy the awesome power under the hood of one of the smoothest and most powerful station wagons ever made.
Audi RS6 Avant Performance – When it comes to the Big Three in Germany, Audi is the third part of that list. The RS6 Avant is a station wagon that pushes out 597 horsepower out of its engine to make it the most powerful wagon in the world. The only negative we see with this wagon is the fact it’s not sold in the US where it would have a wonderful home and be a car we could easily love.
