Cars were made for transportation. Over time we’ve become accustomed to the idea of improving and developing vehicle technology that is made to ensure we have a smoother and more comfortable ride. For those in the world who have made a famous name for themselves these vehicles can be filled with some of the most impressive luxury features you can think of in order to bring about the prestige and elegance that comes with being a celebrity in the world. With this in mind there is one car in particular that has piqued the interest of many that will be auctioned off soon.
The car in question is a special car, there’s no doubt about that. When you mention the name Austin Princess and attach the model year 1956 to the car you know this is a limousine which has been made to drive around some of the most famous people in the world. The posh luxury and signature style of this car is one that was featured in the movie Imagine which was also the name of a famous song written by none other than John Lennon. Why is this of any significance? Because the Austin Princess that will be auctioned off was Lennon’s limousine.
Because the car in question belonged to John Lennon it’s expected to be able to fetch the highest price the Austin Princess ever has at auction. The fact that RM Sotheby’s will be the auction house in charge of the auction certainly helps and having the auction in London on September 7th will allow this car to gain more interest than it would in nearly any other location in the world. The expected price this particular Austin Princess is expected to receive is over $300,000 which just might be a fairly conservative price considering the singular nature of the car.
This particular Austin Princess was custom fitted for John Lennon. After purchasing the car in 1971 he had five airplane seats installed in the car to replace the previous bench seats. This gave the car more comfort and safety to allow for a better ride for himself and any guests he happened to bring along with him. This change turns the already comfortable and luxury laden Austin Princess into a ride that a passenger could sit back in and enjoy a nap in some of the most comfortable and plush seating available at the time.
The seats that were installed at the request of John Lennon are not the only part of the car that will be of interest to anyone bidding on this beautiful piece of automotive history. The registration document that carries the signature of John Lennon is included as part of the sale, which is a priceless document for anyone whether they are a Beatles fan or not to possess. This signature on the registration card allows the car to be of true collectible that has a singular history with one of the most famous people to ever walk this planet.
Additional significance of this car is the fact that Lennon owned it while he was writing the song Imagine and this is the car that was featured in the film that carries the same name. He only owned this car for a year which makes it difficult to imagine that this car was used for so much during that short time. Even though this wasn’t the car that carried John Lennon around most of his adult life, it’s a significant piece of memorabilia and the next owner will certainly be lucky to own it and be able to display it in their collection.
The proceeds for the auction will partially go to a collection of charities making this a car that’s certainly worth bidding on. As a well-kept and preserved car that still has the history of being owned by one of the most famous musicians in the world this is truly a special Austin Princess from 1956 that has seen more than its share of celebrities riding in the rear area of the vehicle. With the story behind this car you can easily see why it’s expected to be the world’s most expensive Austin Princess when it’s auctioned off.
