What would you think if the most glorious road you’ve ever found to drive was one that actually took you nowhere? Is there such a road? Aren’t roads supposed to have an actual destination and bring you where you want to go? It seems that’s normally the case and when you find a road that doesn’t lead you anywhere you will find it happens to have a great deal of interesting features beyond what you normally will run into on most roads, but just how lost do you want to be when you head out?
In California there is such a road, this isn’t a normal road that has is a dead end at the end of the block or has a few houses along the street. Instead this is a road that meanders its way along the California coastline for over 25 miles and then just ends. The road in question is Highway 39 and as it appears on Google Maps you can see a mixture of fast corners, hairpin turns and straightaways that are perfect for you to enjoy testing your driving skills on a raid that looks like it should meet up at Angeles Crest Highway, but this road doesn’t quite get there.
As you drive along this glorious road you’ll find yourself enjoying the amazing ride and admiring what this road challenges you with to let you enjoy some amazing views and find out just what your car is made of. At a point which is nearly four miles from meeting up with Angeles Crest Highway the road just ends with a large permanent gate blocking the way forward. For those who are familiar with this area and have a vehicle that can handle some off road challenges, you can travel another mile or two and find a great hiking trail, but that’s it and this road literally has no real destination for you.
The beauty and winding of Highway 39 are amazing and there isn’t any traffic on this road, at least most of the time. This makes perfect sense because the road doesn’t go anywhere and has nothing along the way to serve you, feed you or provide you with much of anything unless what you need is a therapeutic ride along the California coastline that offers you the chance to no longer be concerned about the worries of your day.
As a road to nowhere, Highway 39 isn’t the road you want when you need to get somewhere fast, because it doesn’t actually have a destination or meet up with any other roads. On the other hand, if you want a road that will give you a challenging drive that’s a lot of fun for you to enjoy, this is the road you should choose to make sure you have the drive you’re looking for and can enjoy the experience along the coastline of California that will remind you of exactly what cruising and driving are all about. Of course, once you reach the gate, you get to experience this amazing road to nowhere all over again.
