Many drivers long for the days when full-size sedans rolled down the street with loud V8 engines, rear-wheel-drive drive trains, and a reputation for being cool. The Dodge Charger remains an iconic classic muscle car with a modern twist.
The newest Dodge Charger offers things like all-wheel-drive, driver-assist features, and tech options that our grandparents would never imagine on such a muscular but affordable sedan.
Of course, with six distinct trim levels, it almost feels like Dodge makes half a dozen completely different cars that just happen to share the Charger nameplate. Before running to the dealership to test drive your next Charger, take a minute to see how these different models differ.
Where They Are The Same
All Dodge Charger models come with one of five available engines, although not all trims can be equipped with every powertrain. Regardless of the engine, the Charger runs on an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. There are, however, a couple of trims that offer all-wheel-drive as an option.
Base-Level SXT
It’s hard to call the SXT an intro-level with everything that it offers, but this trim is where the Dodge Charger starts.
- 17-inch wheels
- Keyless entry and ignition with remote start
- Seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
- Dual-zone climate control
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel
- Power-adjustable front seats
- Cruise control
Sporty GT
Those who want some rumble under the hood and added features love the GT. It builds on the SXT with the following:
LED fog lights
Heated outside mirrors
Fine-tuned sport suspension
20-inch wheels
8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen
Upgraded audio system
Sporty and Powerful R/T
The R/T trim doesn’t make any huge jumps but is the first-level trim that comes with a V8 engine. It combines the sporty look of the GT with just a couple of extras to help it stand out.
- Special 20-inch wheels
- Active exhaust
Upgraded Performance: Scat Pack
The Scat Pack adds further tweaks to improve your Dodge Charger’s power and performance. It still comes with 20-inch wheels, but it sports unique wheels that are different than what you find on the R/T.
- Limited-slip differential
- High-performance brakes
- More aggressive sport seats
- Heated front seats and steering wheel
- High-performance suspension
- Launch control
- Performance drive modes
Top-Of-The-Line SRT Hellcat
At the top of the model pyramid is the SRT Hellcat. This model employs a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that will blow the competition out of the water. It also comes with various performance and luxury upgrades:
- Flared fenders
- Ultra high-performance brakes
- Adaptive suspension
- Aggressive bodywork
- Ventilated seats
- Heated second-row seats
- Driver-seat memory settings
- Leather-trimmed interior
- Power-adjustable steering wheel
- High-performance tires
New and Improved Hellcat Redeye
While the Hellcat Redeye technically counts as an additional model, it’s really just an upgraded version of the already loaded SRT Hellcat. It’s called the Redeye because it’s practically been possessed by a demon with a 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 engine. It mostly comes with the same equipment as the SRT but gets a few unique features as well.
