3 Signs You're at a Shady Car Dealership, and 3 Signs You're Not

Don’t get scammed! If you are buying a car, then you need to know what to look for and what to avoid. Here are three signs you are at a shady dealership and three signs you are at a good one.

There are thousands upon thousands of car dealerships with cars for sale around the United States, and they all have one thing in common: They want to make money. Most car dealerships in America are trustworthy, but there is an alarming amount of dealers who shouldn’t be trusted and definitely should not get your business. The most important thing to look at is reviews. The internet is an amazing thing, and chances are, if you are thinking of buying from a particular dealership, they are going to have online reviews. The first thing you should do every time is looking at an establishment’s online reviews. You are not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but, in reality, that is what covers are for.

Keep reading to find out which dealers to go to.

Patience is Key

If you need a car, take a deep breath. Being patient and weighing your options is key to getting the car you want for the price you want. A lot of car dealers want to rush you into making a decision. That way, you do not get the best price on a car, or you are stuck paying a lot of money over a long period of time. Be patient.

Inventory

The first thing you notice when you walk into any dealership is the cars. If a dealership seems to be low on cars, there is probably a problem. While there is a nationwide shortage of cars in America, dealers should still have their lots full of cars. If their lots are empty, they have less to sell to you.

Untrue Sticker Prices

Shady dealerships will try to trick you into buying something you don’t want or spending more money than you’d like to. If you go to a dealer and their sticker prices are false or off, this is a major red flag.

Poor Ratings

Ratings are very, very important. If a dealership has poor ratings, it is likely that it is a shady one. Dealers have reviews for a reason, and if a dealer has negative reviews, that is a sign that you should avoid them.

Now, on to the good reasons.

Up-To-Date Inspections

If a dealership has up-to-date inspections on all of their vehicles, this is a really good sign. It means they take the time to make sure their vehicles are ready to be sold to anyone who walks through the door. It’s professional and courteous to the consumer.

Test Drivable Cars

You should always be able to test drive the car you want at a dealership. If the salesperson is eager to get you into the driver’s seat, it means they are confident in the vehicle and ready to sell it to you.

Good Ratings

Again, ratings are everything. Good ratings are a good sign. If you check a dealer’s online reviews and most of them are positive, then this is a good sign that it is safe to buy a car there.
