Over the years there have been some performance vehicles that have been developed for us to enjoy but some haven’t been able to be sold in the US. Thankfully, the new Honda Civic Type R which will be part of the 2018 model year will actually be sold in North America. This car has finally made its debut in Geneva and we’re thrilled by what we see and the performance that it promises for us when it’s time to hit the road and give us a great ride to enjoy when we want to drive.
The new Type R is based on the then generation of the Civic and is the most powerful, quickest and fastest version of this compact sports car that’s ever been built. The fact that the production model made its way to the stage in Geneva and looks just like the prototype is a huge bonus for those of us who have been squirrelling away our pennies to be able to afford this beautiful car when it comes to the US for sale. You’ll certainly want to be ready when this beauty makes its way to the dealership near you, as this will be a car that will sell and sell fast.
Under the hood of the Civic Type R resides a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. By itself, that’s not an impressive attribute, but the fact that it can produce 306 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque to give you a powerful FWD car is impressive. This engine will be paired with a six-speed manual transmission that offers automatic rev matching to give you smooth downshifting when you need it. There’s no doubting this is the car that you’ll love the drive and thankfully we get to have it in the US, unlike the previous model of the Civic Type R.
Power isn’t everything if you don’t have some agility to go with it. The Civic Type R will ride on a completely redesigned suspension to give you a reduced torque steer and make the response to your steering inputs faster for you. This is accomplished with a new four-wheel adaptive suspension system that makes it easy to keep this beauty under control and in place on the road. You even have the benefit of a helical limited slip front differential that makes it easy for you to have the ride control you’re after.
Look inside and you’ll see an impressive array of electronics in the new Type R while you also have the benefit of three different drive modes to choose from with this car. You’ll love the 12-speaker 540-watt audio system that is controlled through the seven-inch touchscreen that also offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is a navigation system that will make it easy for you to find your way to where you need to go and the lines and feel of the cabin are smooth and sporty to keep the impressive feeling of this compact sports car alive for you.
You’ll want to drive the Honda Civic Type R and its coming to a dealership near you for the 2018 model year. Not many mainstream names have been this hotly anticipated for as long, but this car comes to you in a look and with a feeling that makes it easy to think that Honda put their heart and soul into this beautiful car. With that in mind it seems like you should at least respect the effort enough to give this car a look. For most of us, that will be the easy part, the hard part will be fighting off the crowds that want to get the Type R for themselves first.
