GM has made some significant updates to its 2022 GMC lineup. If you’ve got a new vehicle on your shopping list this year, take a look at the upgrades coming to these trucks and SUVs.
Doing Premium to Perfection in the 2022 GMC Lineup
GMC is making upscale upgrades to its premium lineup, from engine updates to Super Cruise driver assistance technology. And if that wasn’t enough, the automaker brought back the Hummer as an EV pickup with plans to debut a Hummer EV SUV in 2024.
So, what’s new in ’22 for the GMC lineup?
Acadia: A Little More Safety and Style
The mid-size, three-row GMC Acadia is getting a few updates for 2022. Style changes include an extra exterior paint color option (Light Stone Metallic), and the base SLE and SLT trims get new 18- and 20-inch wheel design choices. GMC’s Traction Select System and Pro Safety Plus advanced driver assistance technology is now standard on all trims.
A Trail-Ready Terrain in the 2022 GMC Lineup
GMC’s compact crossover got the “new year, new me” treatment, plus a new, trail-ready AT4 trim. The exterior design changes include a restyled front fascia, three new paint color options, redesigned front and rear LED lighting, and new 18- and 19-inch wheel options.
Inside, you’ll find significant upgrades to seating and surfaces. And the new technology package with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Alexa is standard on all trim levels.
Yukon and Yukon XL Add an Assistant
GMC made minor enhancements to these plus-size SUVs. The infotainment system now includes Google Assistant, and the 12-inch driver information center is standard on every Yukon and Yukon XL trim. Performance-wise, GMC has made its beefy 6.2L, 420-hp V8 power plant available on the AT4 off-road trim.
Canyon Gets a Glossy Glow-Up
This mid-size truck got a style refresh in 2021, so GMC didn’t make many substantial changes for 2022. The one new addition is a Black Edition package available on the Denali trim. The package includes 20-inch low-gloss black wheels, a gloss black exhaust tip, gloss black chrome assist steps, plus new all-weather floor liners.
Sierra Trucks Get a Refresh in the 2022 GMC Lineup
Although no plans for updates have been revealed for the heavy-duty 2500 and 3500 models, the automaker gave the Sierra 1500 a complete refresh for 2022. Among the updates are:
- New top-level trims: AT4X off-road and Denali Ultimate luxury pickup
- Updated exterior features, including front and rear LED lighting, wheel designs, a redesigned front fascia, and three new color choices
- A center console design, nicer materials, and a larger touchscreen
The Rise of a New Legend: Hummer EV Pickup
The Hummer EV is GMC’s new all-electric pickup. Capable of traveling 329 miles on a full charge, its powertrain knocks out 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque (no, that wasn’t a typo). Among its most eyebrow-raising features is its Crab Walk driving mode that allows the truck to move diagonally around obstacles. GMC also includes its Super Cruise hands-free driving technology.
Making it Look Easy
Launching a new, attention-grabbing model while keeping the rest of the lineup fresh is no easy feat. But GMC rose to the challenge to deliver a 2022 line of SUVs and pickups with plenty of new goodies to drive traffic to dealerships.
