Plans to Expand Mazda’s SUV Lineup Mean a New Release is Coming

Mazda builds some of the most comfortable yet fun-to-drive sport utility vehicles on the market. These SUVs keep drivers coming back to Mazda year after year. With a variety of sizes and styles, there is an SUV for everyone at Mazda.

However, the designers knew there was an area of the market they couldn’t reach with the current lineup. Enter the all-new CX-90. This vehicle is marketed to be larger and even more luxurious than all the other sport utility vehicles on the Mazda lot right now.

When Will the CX-90 Be Available?

While we don’t have an exact date, we do know the CX-90 should be available in the early months of 2023. Production is supposed to start sometime in the fall of 2022. There is lots of excitement surrounding this new vehicle, so stay tuned to hear more details as they come out.

What Will the CX-90 Cost?

Mazda has not released the official pricing rubric for the 2023 Mazda CX-90. However, there are some educated guesses floating around based on past data from Mazda. It is suggested that the starting price for the base model of the CX-90 will be right at $40,000.

From there, the price will increase to around $42,000 for the Select, $44,000 for the Preferred, and $46,000 for the Preferred Plus trim. The Premium and Premium Plus models will go for about $48,000 and $52,000, respectively.

What About Power?

This new seven-seater SUV will be the first Mazda to utilize the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine. Mazda has been working on this engine and the world finally gets to see it in the CX-90. This turbo engine will likely be a 48-volt hybrid system.

This setup appears to be inspired by some other luxury SUVs, namely Land Rover and BMW. It is clear that the CX-90 will be the most luxurious vehicle from Mazda, but it should still be fun to drive.

As of now, we don’t know what the horsepower and torque specs will be. But it is clear that they will surely be greater than the 250 horsepower and 320-pound per foot of torque on the current 2.5-liter turbo-four engine of the CX-9.

Either way, the CX-90 will likely have standard all-wheel-drive to be in line with the rest of the Mazda SUVs.

Hybrid Option?

There is a definite possibility that the CX-90 is a plug-in hybrid model. Currently, Mazda offers the CX-60 in European markets which utilizes this system. The CX-60 offers 323 horsepower.

Stay Tuned!

While we don’t have all the information regarding the new CX-90, we do know that, just like previous Mazda SUVs, it is worth the wait. This new CX-90 promises to be larger and more luxurious than other SUVs in the Mazda lineup. But it will likely stay true to Mazda heritage and still be sporty, and you will enjoy the drive.
