Toyota is planning to launch three new EV models for the European market by 2026. All three are SUVs, and Toyota teased the silhouettes of the cars recently. One SUV resembles the 2023 Land Cruiser Se concept, while another one looks like the large bZ SUV from 2021. An electric pickup is also confirmed, but Toyota hasn’t said if it will be based on the Hilux or something new.
Toyota Europe Confirms Several EV Models
Several new electric vehicles are on the table for Toyota Europe. The bZ4X compact SUV gets more power and a facelift, while the Lexus RZ luxury SUV now includes an F Sport model and steer-by-wire tech. The subcompact FT-Me concept reveals Toyota’s intention to expand its lineup of electric vehicles. The electric vehicles planned for 2026 include one pickup truck and possibly an electric Land Cruiser.
Toyota hasn’t provided any concrete information on the upcoming EVs, but the teaser image reveals a few details. The SUV with the boxy profile and rear dip in the roofline looks very much like the previous Land Cruiser Se concept. Not much was revealed about that concept, other than that it included three rows of seats and an electric powertrain.
The middle vehicle in the teaser is obviously a pickup truck and that tracks with Toyota’s previous hints that an electric pickup was in the works. Toyota showed the EPU concept in 2023, but that truck’s compact shape doesn’t match the vehicle in the teaser.
Could An Electric Hilux or Tacoma be On the Way?
The teaser pictures of the new EV truck appear to be more like the Hilux, which is Toyota’s midsize truck offering on the international market. It’s essentially the same thing as the Toyota Tacoma in the United States. Back in 2021, Toyota revealed an electric truck concept that ended up being a preview of the new Tacoma. Toyota likely plans to bring an electric Tacoma to the market in the future as well.
It would make sense for Toyota to release an electric Tacoma to minimize costs and have the model share various Toyota dealer parts. The final SUV in the mix is difficult to guess. It features a lower roofline similar to the Crown Signia. This might be the production version of the bZ Large SUV concept. However, the eventual name might be different as Toyota wants to move away from the bZ name.
Lexus Also Gains New Electric Models
Lexus will also get two more EV models in Europe after the updated RZ. There are no real hints of what those models will be, but there were several concepts in 2021 for the Lexus brand that might be on the table. One was an electric sedan that looks a bit like the IS sedan. Another possibility is a three-row SUV. These production models will likely riff on the 2023 LF-ZC and LF-ZL concepts.
Most of these new models are unlikely to make it into the United States market. However, if any of them do, it will most likely be the production of Land Cruiser Se and an electric truck. As previously mentioned, the electric truck is most likely to be an EV Tacoma. More information on Toyota’s upcoming EV plans should be revealed later this year.
