Sentra
Even though Nissan hasn’t always been the symbol of reliability on the road the Sentra offers a staggering statistic that tells us more than 93 percent of the models built after 2005 are still on the road. While that may not seem impressive, and if you are someone who loves their trucks it’s not, for a car that has been the beater that parents pass on to their younger drivers when they no longer need them for daily driving that is truly impressive. As much as we have dogged the Sentra for being the beater of a lifetime this car has a history of taking everything we can throw at it and coming back for more.
The new Sentra gets a great deal of love from Nissan to give us a car that will be less like a car you don’t want to drive and much more like you will be proud to own. While the entire lineup from Nissan has been giving a bolder look which came in with the fully redesigned Maxima, no other vehicle benefited as much as the Sentra from this updating and restyling. Even though it’s not a new generation, it certainly is for the style of this car.
What has changed on the new Sentra? Everything forward of the A-pillars is brand new. This gives us a car with a fully redesigned front end that is awesome to look at and enjoy. In the rear the bumper, taillights, and wheels are all new. This gives us a look that is more impressive than before and shows up with the right features for us to enjoy and be amazed with. When was the last time you saw a Sentra that rode on 17-ihc wheels; it’s probably been a long time and the Sentra SR will have these wheels as standard offering.
Just upgrading the outside would not work for the Sentra. The interior of this car has an improved center stack, console, doors and an upgraded steering wheel to take the one from the 370Z and put it in this compact car. There are new gauges inside to enjoy as long as you choose a model that is above the FE+S trim. This new gauge system offers a vertical center screen and a choice of several different displays for you to decide which one works best for you and your driving habits.
While the engine lineup remains the same the powertrain and the suspension have been improved to add better overall tuning. This gives you a drive that is more connected, more confident and easily more comfortable than before in this car. While the Sentra of old would shudder and shake uncontrollably, especially older models, this car gives you some of the best driving and a ride that is smooth and fully enjoyed from behind the wheel. Instead of the typical noises that you hear in a Sentra you can now hear the engine, which is much more enjoyable than a car that sounds like it’s about to tear apart at any moment.
Even though it doesn’t take a lot of power to get this car going, the 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 130 horsepower is not anything you are going to write home about, but it’s still a competent engine to get the job done. The fuel mileage is at its best since the transmission offered is a well-tuned continuously variable automatic transmission that has been reprogrammed to resemble a typical automatic. At the price of $17,615 you can get in the base model and move up to the SL for $23,005. For the sporty drive of the SR you will have a standard price of $21,245 but the Premium SR will cost you somewhere near $25,245 to be one of the most impressive Sentra models ever to hit the road.
You may not find yourself nostalgic about the Sentra, because of it being a beater in the past, but this new model is certainly not a car you want to beat up and pound into the ground. Instead you want to drive this new beauty and don’t mind when your friends see this new Sentra that you have; they might be amazed this gorgeous car has the Sentra name on it.
