You’ll get less power with Cherokee’s base model, which understandably features a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that provides 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque.
Both models also offer additional engine options allowing you to find a model that fits your power needs. However, the Grand Cherokee tops out as far as total power output. While the Jeep Cherokee offers lower power output, it does deliver better fuel economy overall. The Cherokee offers an EPA estimate of 19 MPG in the city and 27 MPG in the highway. You’ll get slightly less fuel efficiency with the Jeep Grand Cherokee as it delivers an EPA estimate of 18 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway.
Comparing Off-Roading Performance In the Timberline Trim
Jeep’s Trailhawk trim is available across the entire Jeep lineup and brings with it performance features that enhance your driving experience. While this trim is available on both the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Cherokee, offerings deviate a bit across models.
Seeing as the Jeep Grand Cherokee is larger, the Trailhawk trim is slightly more comprehensive in order to deliver a better off-roading experience. In the Grand Cherokee, off-road features include Jeep’s Quadra-Trac II & Quadra-Drive II systems, off-road tires, 4WD, an adjustable air suspension with off-road tuning, tow hooks, skid plates, an upgraded driver display, and so much more.
Some of these features overlap the Cherokee, but more advanced features are noticeably missing. Overall, the smaller crossover Trailhawk brings with it an advanced AWD system called Active Drive II with Active Drive Lock, increased ground clearance, hill ascent & descent control,
skid plates, all-terrain tires, and other great features.
