A car that offers superior handling to every other car and a reasonable amount of power is what the Lotus Evora is all about. This car is a fantastic two seat luxury sports car that offers the ability to cut a corner faster and with more confidence than any other car, allowing little to no sway of the body or loss of control from the dynamic driving system of the Evora. This car does offer the option to have a rear seat with two places to sit, but is better left as a two-seater only, due to lack of space and legroom in the back.
Fitting into the luxury sports car class, the Lotus Evora competes nicely with the Porsche Cayman, Audi S5 and Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. Boasting the greatest handling on the market, the Evora is a low and wide bodied car that is practically stuck to the pavement in a way no other car has found the ability to do. Normally car companies make a few changes each model year, but the 2014 Lotus Evora carries over completely unchanged from the previous model year, making the second year for this beautiful machine.
With a goal of adding lightness to the drive along with making the car itself lighter, the Evora experiences a driving dynamic that takes full advantage of a highly complicated and sophisticated precision along with a steering that offers the ability in the car to nearly drive itself and allow the occupants to sit back and enjoy the ride. The weighting from the steering dispels the body sway and the suspension not only keeps the car planted, but also handles road defects to allow those inside to feel as if they are riding on a cloud instead of inside one of the most agile sports cars on the planet. Adding a cabin that is quiet and hushed, the only sounds the driver and passenger will hear is their own conversations or the musical selections they choose on the audio system.
There are two engine offerings for the Evora, both of which are Toyota-sourced engines that are paired up with a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed automatic transmission. Both engines are mounted behind the passenger cabin which is the ideal position for the rear-wheel drive and balanced handling offered for this car. The automatics feature Intelligent Precision Shift which aids the fuel mileage, but does decrease the acceleration and top speed of the car.
The first engine is a 3.5-liter V6 found in the standard Evora and offers up 276 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. When mated to the transmissions, this powertrain will reach a fuel mileage of 18 city/26 hwy mpg for the manual and 20 city/28 hwy mpg for the automatic, to give some nice fuel savings on this great car. The power might not sound like much, but it’s more than adequate to power this light sports car.
The more powerful engine offered is the one found in the Evora S model is the 3.5-liter supercharged V6 engine which brings in 345 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. The fuel mileage for this engine shows up at a 17 city/26 hwy mpg setting for the manual and 19 city/28 hwy mpg for the automatic. The power experienced with this engine is exciting and allows owners to have plenty of great power along with the agility of this masterpiece.
The cabin of the Evora is what is expected, small, a bit tight, and completely set up for the driving experience it is designed for. With two comfortable and easy to enjoy seats up front and the rear area is better left as a cargo location to bring a few things along wherever the road may take the car. All controls in the Evora are top of the line and give the driver the ability to make decisions and switch gears, adjust steering, or just cruise at any point during the drive.
The exterior of the Evora is gorgeous to look at and enticing to witness in action. The car is low slung, simply elegant and offers a smooth transition from every curve or angle possible. The front shows off a low grill under the front angled bumper and long and narrow headlights that are sharply sophisticated in their appearance. The angles of the car extend to the rear with a very low hood to roof angle and a set of large wheels that take up all the space in the wheel well and are a huge part of this car’s ability to stay firmly situated on the ground. The overall appearance is classy and charming in a bold fashion that is truly breathtaking.
For the Evora, the standard equipment shows up as a variety of high-tech gear for all to enjoy. This list includes AP Racing four-piston brakes, staggered-width wheels (18 in the front and 19 in the rear), Pirelli P-Zero tires, blacked out trim, a sport mode, Recaro Seats and an Alpine audio system just to name a few of the fantastic offerings this car has included as standard fare.
The optional features for the Evora start with the 2+2 seating that adds a pair of tiny rear seats (an option to avoid unless completely necessary), the six-speed automatic transmission, a choice of different wheels, heated seats, a rearview camera, a navigation system, a seven-inch touch screen, an upgraded audio system with a DVD player, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and parking sensors. Considering many of the optional features are needed to make this car one that is very enjoyable on highways, it’s a good idea to add most of them from the start and skip over the standard base offerings right away.
The starting price for the 2014 Lotus Evora with two seats and none of the extras will show up at a price that is just over $70,000. The supercharged Evora S will add $10,000 to the price to come in a little over the $80,000 mark. With the addition of the automatic transmission and the optional features of the car in place, the price can easily move up several thousand more for this amazing supercar. Lotus has been a celebrated namesake for many years, allowing those who are able to afford one to truly experience the control that can be had in a great sports car.
