Volkswagen EV Plans: A Bold Statement

The future of Volkswagen EV models is bright. The VW group of brands will present us with several amazing EV models to enjoy very soon.

Not too long ago we heard from Volkswagen with their goal to create and offer an amazing range of EV models. The goal stated for this brand was to create nearly thirty new models that will all be powered exclusively by battery packs while offering the range needed to make these vehicles useful and livable.

Recently, we’ve heard once again from the head of Volkswagen and now the statements made have a much larger and further-reaching impact upon the brands that are part of Volkswagen Group to help carry this entire group of brands into the future.

Volkswagen EV Plans Can Reach Several Brands

CEO Matthias Muller recently spoke and stated that the extension of the electrification of the Volkswagen brand will extend to every brand and encompass every model offered by the brands under the Volkswagen Group umbrella by 2030.

This is certainly a wide-reaching statement that can affect every brand from MAN to Bugatti with the ability to offer range from a 48-volt mild-hybrid model on up to a fully electric vehicle that has to be charged to drive. This is the goal that Volkswagen is working on as an entire group of brands in an effort to be a leader in the industry.

Putting Money into the Future of Volkswagen EVs

The current estimates offered to give us an idea of what VW will offer is that over a quarter of the new vehicles developed and offered will be completely electric by 2025. In order to accomplish this goal, there will be a need for more than 150-gigawatt hours of battery capacity per year to power the fleet that will be on the roads.

In order to give an idea of how much power this is, the equivalency is approximately the same as four gigafactories producing battery cells.

In order to fund this venture, VW has started the process of working toward building the factory that will push out the batteries needed which will cost over $50 billion to create one large or multiple smaller factories. This will aid the entire Volkswagen Group in transforming toward the electrification needed to make it possible for the vehicles to be powered with the fuel that will be part of the future of the automotive industry.

Necessary Expansion

In addition to creating factories where the batteries can be made, VW is ready to create the charging infrastructure needed as well to make sure the world can be ready to charge up these vehicles while on the road.

We won’t see the internal combustion engine gone from the market in a hurry as VW will use it to transition the electric drive vehicles. This current power will be used to bridge the gap as we get used to how the electric-powered models will fit in our lives and the charging stations become more widely presented on the market.

This means that for the current and immediate future, VW will offer us the entire powertrain spectrum to choose from in order to have the affordable mobility we’re looking for on the road as we move into the future.
