2022 Silverado, Chevy Safety Assist

2022 Silverado, Chevy Safety Assist

The 2022 Chevy Silverado brings you the package of safety features you expect to find in a modern vehicle to make this truck safer to drive.

Maybe you feel that Chevy is a little behind other brands that already have names for their safety packages, but we have a standard bundle from the bow tie brand. The new package of items is called Chevy Safety Assist, and it’s part of every model of the Silverado for 2022. This allows you to feel more secure when behind the wheel and more confident out on the road.

What Items Come in the Chevy Safety Assist Package?

The standard package of safety items in every Silverado includes:

  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • Following Distance Indicator
  • IntelliBeam automatic high beam headlights

These impressive items give you the alerts, warnings, and braking needed to ensure you stay out of a collision while driving. As you move up through the trims, you can select more features to aid your drive. The Super Cruise feature is offered on higher trims, giving you some hands-free driving on mapped-out highways. Previously, this feature only showed up in GM vehicles with the Cadillac name on them.

When you need to use your Chevy Silverado for towing, This truck has the features to make this part of driving more manageable for you. There’s an Advanced Trailering System with the in-vehicle trailering app, Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control. These features account for the length of the trailer to help you avoid accidents and pull a load better out on the road.

Across the Silverado lineup, you’ll also find an HD Rear Vision Camera and the Buckle to Drive feature. While these are not part of the Chevy Safety Assist package, they are essential parts of your driving experience in the Silverado.

What Does the Chevy Silverado Offer Other than Safety?

This half-ton Chevy pickup truck is one of the most impressive and versatile trucks in the market. You’ll find several trims, configurations, powertrains, and capabilities in this truck. For the first time, we have a ZR2 model of the Silverado, which takes a page from the midsize Colorado playbook, and the High Country model is genuinely luxurious. No matter what you need a truck to do, you’re going to find it somewhere in the Silverado lineup.

A New Interior Look for the Silverado

You’ll find an interior package from the LT model and up, that looks and feels much better than before. This truck gives you a modern, widescreen infotainment system that is located higher on the dashboard than before. This gives you easier visibility when you need the information this screen provides. The dashboard also shows you a console-mounted gearshift lever, which is a change, but not one that opens up space or makes a huge difference. Upgraded door panels and a digital gauge cluster show up as you move up to the higher trims of this Chevy pickup truck.

Better Style for the Build of this Chevy Truck

The Chevy Silverado brings us a new look for 2022. This model is more conservative than previous models, which is good. You’ll see a more traditional grille than what we saw for the 2019 redesign of the Silverado. The sides are big, chunky, and chiseled, giving you the massive build you want to see. With a traditional tailgate, the Chevrolet name is stamped across its center. Move to higher trims, and you find specified grille and wheel treatments for the High Country and ZR2 models that give each trim a unique look.

Several Powertrains for Your Needs

There are four engines and three transmissions used in the Chevy Silverado lineup. This gives you a variety of power levels and efficiency numbers. The transmissions are six, eight, and ten-speed automatic models, pushing power to the wheels for you. Towing ranges from 8,900 pounds to 13,300 pounds, giving you more than enough strength to pull what you want during your drive.

The engines and power they include are:

  • 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, 310 horsepower, 420 lb.-ft. of torque
  • 5.3-liter V8, 355 horsepower, 383 lb.-ft. of torque
  • 6.2-liter V8, 420 horsepower, 460 lb.-ft. of torque
  • 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel six-cylinder, 277 horsepower, 460 lb.-ft. of torque

The diesel engine in RWD returns the highest fuel mileage rating at 23 city/31 hwy mpg, but you might not feel it is worth the added cost of diesel fuel. Among the gasoline engines, the four-cylinder model in RWD offers you the best fuel mileage at 19 city/22 hwy mpg.
