Didn’t the Ford Ranger only recently return to the US market for 2019? Isn’t this a new truck that’s built on a brand new platform?
The answer to the first question is “yes” but the second question is answered with a “no.” The Ranger we received on the market is a reworked version of the model that’s been on the roads in overseas markets for a while, at least since 2011 when the previous Ranger wasdeleted from the US market.
Why did Ford Do This To Us?
As the home market for Ford and for the Ranger, didn’t we deserve to have a brand new version of the Ranger when it appeared for 2019? Actually, no we don’t. The Ford Ranger was an excellent compact pickup truck before it was deleted and now it’sback as a midsize model, but during the time we didn’t have it on the market in the US, this truck was one of the most popular trucks sold around the world. In fact, one of the largest markets forthe Ranger has been the Australian market, where something new has appeared.
The Ranger Mold Appears
It’s no secret that automakers will use specialized clay to build a model of vehicles that might come to the market for the future. Recently, a couple of photos of a new Ford truck mold surfaced from Australia. This new mold could give us an idea of what the new Ranger pickup will look like and it’s certainly a design we can admire. We already know that Ford is working on developing this truckand with the Australian market being one of the most popular for this truck, it makes sense that team in this country would have some influence on the design.
Why Didn’t We Receive Our Own New Ranger?
The Ford Ranger is a global product and only the items that need to be changed are changed in order to make sure each market has what’s desired. The Ranger is slated to be upgraded for the 2022 model year, which means we’ll see it in 2021, making the 2019 model a latter version in the generation. The cost to Ford to develop a brand new model two years early would have been astronomical and they already had to adjust this truck to meet the regulations in the US.
The New Ranger is Coming
We’ve learned the new Ford Ranger will be built on the same platform as the upcoming Ford Bronco and it will give us more choices and an upgraded vehicle to allow us to have what we want. Until the time this new Ranger arrives, the one that we do have is an excellent choice. The current Ranger gives you the capability and versatility that makes it a fun model to drive and experience when you take it out on the roads or into the wilderness for a drive.
